Moved In. School Starting. Settling In.
So we're pretty much moved in here at Mom and Dad's and starting to get into a routine. (Please see Complete Change of Plans if you missed my big announcement about our move.) Wow, has it been nice to have four adults around as I'm getting used to being back at work and the girls are checking out their new surroundings. Coming home to a calm environment has sure been pleasant, too! That's not to say there hasn't been adjustments to be made, but that's true anytime you move, really.
I start teaching on Monday. I am super excited, though I do have to say that my classroom configuration is driving me a bit crazy. I wasn't thrilled with the way I set up the desks (see Classroom Set Up), but I compromised with myself. This morning, however, I was reading "The First Days of School" and was reminded why I like rows of desks. It has been proven through statistics and studies that students learn better when they are facing forward and not in groups. Grrr... I think I am going to go in and change back to the rows and try to figure out how to make it work for space.
Over all life is starting to settle down. We still have to spend some time at the townhouse to clean and pack, but that can really be done at any time. We're not in a hurry. Once the girls start school it will be REALLY nice so we can fall into a routine that works for all of us, and life can start to feel normal. This year has been pretty rocky. I'm looking forward to a bit of smooth sailing.

Sounds like you did the right thing in moving in with your parents. That's a shame that those other kids bullied your kids. Sounds like it was a situation to leave and in a hurry! I start back to school on Aug. 10th. I dread it and look forward to it at the same time! LOL! Have a great year and glad you are settling down in your new home!
Good luck to you! Did mention before that I liked your header photo? It must be that Karen's (I'm a Karen too) like lighthouses! I know several Karen's that do! Have a great school year ahead of you!
Susan, it was DEFINITELY a situation to leave in a hurry. It's just getting worse. We were at the townhouse doing some packing last night and the neighbor came over to tell us he caught the kids throwing rocks at our unit two nights in a row. He's going to contact the HOA and try to take pictures, but the fight has gone out of me. As long as my children, husband, and myself are safe, I'm fine. The property is just "stuff." I'm done worrying about it. Terrible, huh?
Karen, I really do think there is something to the name of a person. I don't know how or why, but it seems to be true.
Good luck with everything. Hope everything starts falling into place as I am sure it will. Praying for you and your family during this transition.
Thank you Superwoman. Prayers are always appreciated. I think things are falling into place. Now it's just getting used to it.
We lived with my mom and dad for a while. It was truly one of the best decisions we ever made. We moved out after about 3 years, it was time, but the bond between my kids and my parents is wonderful.
Audrey: Thank you for sharing that. It gives me peace to know others have done this successfully with children. My girls were pretty close to their grandparents to begin with, but my youngest is already talking about how nice it is to see Grandma and Grandpa every day. They will have great memories as they get older.
That is interesting about the directions of the desks. I see teachers do both and didn't know they had different results!
